First of all

First of all, I don’t know how many of you would be interested in this as no one guessed The Princess Bride in my movie meme, but I love both that movie and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, so I had to share something that halcyon_shift posted awhile ago. It’s the Lord of the Rings trilogy script told entirely in quotes from The Princess Bride. It’s quite amusing, and if you’re interested, you can find it here. Now, on to the memes. I love them, as most of you are well aware, so here are a bunch that I’ve seen in people’s journals over the past week or so…My angst tastes like…Black LicoriceUnique and difficult to place, your angst finds its source in something you keep hidden. You have something serious and possibly traumatic, but you try to hide it from everyone and just tell them to ignore you when you seem troubled, that everything’s really OK. You might think that you have good reasons for not telling people, and some of them may in fact be true, but most likely a lifetime of keeping your secrets has led to a resolution fortified by rationalization that nobody else can shake simply because you never give them a chance. Ask yourself if it would really be that horrible to open up to others; nobody says you have to do it all at once, even. But you should at least try getting out of your shell a little. It’s not healthy to internalize everything and conceal it. Anyway, if people really care for you, and they probably do, then they’ll be loving and supportive regardless of any reason to the contrary.Find your angst’s flavorYeah, that’s about right.Which Pagan Goddess Are You? by kira_mayName?Age?You are:You favourite trick:Manipulating the minds of mortalsYour feeling towards mortals:They make good slavesWhen you sleep with mortals, your lover is:Mortal you’d most like to smite:Paris HiltonQuiz created with MemeGen!I debated about posting this, because it is just odd, but manipulating the minds of mortals and smiting Paris Hilton are just too good to pass up.The Dante’s Inferno Test has banished you to the Fifth Level of Hell! Here is how you matched up against all the levels:LevelScorePurgatory (Repenting Believers)ModerateLevel 1 – Limbo (Virtuous Non-Believers)LowLevel 2 (Lustful)LowLevel 3 (Gluttonous)HighLevel 4 (Prodigal and Avaricious)Very LowLevel 5 (Wrathful and Gloomy)Very HighLevel 6 – The City of Dis (Heretics)Very LowLevel 7 (Violent)ModerateLevel 8- the Malebolge (Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers)HighLevel 9 – Cocytus (Treacherous)LowTake the Dante Inferno Hell TestMe? NCIS vs. WaT

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

What has happened to my shows? Before I get into details/discussion, let me just set up the background of this. Back in May of last year, rumors were swirling about regarding the changes happening at NCIS. Someone was going to die in the finale, and the producer kept talking about how he was planning to make the show darker the next year. Then, the finale aired, and Kate was killed. Okay, I could accept that (especially considering that it was the actress’s decision to leave). However, the character of Ari was completely changed, so that instead of being a complex, morally ambiguous good guy, he was a stereotypical terrorist. That, combined with the fact that they were getting “serious”, instead of being humorous as they had been, and the description of the new character that they were looking for left me dreading the start of the next season. I taped the episodes, but didn’t watch them. For Without a Trace, I hadn’t heard any rumors, so I was shocked at the end of the finale when someone opened fire on Martin and Danny. I was on pins and needles waiting for the season to open and watched it as soon as it aired. Now I have seen all of the episodes so far of both shows and I need to say something that I never thought I would ever say…First of all, new characters… I was predisposed to hate Ziva on NCIS. Kate had been part of all of my ships on the show, and I didn’t want anyone replacing her. At all. But then, something strange happened. I found myself liking her. A lot. On WaT, I was determined to keep an open mind about the new character. I felt that she could possibly add a spark to the group. I ended up disliking Elena. Quite a lot. I found myself wondering why this would be. I mean both of the new characters have a lot of things in common… Dark haired, pretty, accented (the actress who plays Ziva is from Chile and the character is from Israel, while the actress/character on WaT is Latina), brash/no-nonsense, cop without any real emotional sensibilities about the job, added into an ensemble cast of five other people, etc. There are a few major differences, however. First of all is the actresses. Cote de Pablo is pretty, but not stand-out pretty. Her hair is a little frizzy and her body isn’t a model’s body. I can much more see her as a federal agent than I can Roselyn Sanchez. Cote de Pablo’s delivery is better as well. I often have a difficult time following what Roselyn Sanchez is saying. It’s like she has a mouthful of marbles or something. Also, I think that Cote de Pablo is an infinitely better actress. I find her scenes much more believable and enjoyable to watch.Second of all is how the characters were introduced. Ziva was part of the initial investigation that wrapped up the ends of last season’s finale (in a two-part season opener), and she had a significant role to play, but the episode wasn’t focused on her. The episodes’ focus (ironically enough) was actually Kate. The two episodes showed how each of the team members dealt with (or didn’t deal with) Kate’s death, including showing what they thought of her when she “appeared” to each of them. Then, Ziva was gone for the next episode, so that the focus could be on the original team. When she came back, they integrated her in well. Each of the other characters had a different relationship with her, allowing the audience to see different sides. Compare that to how Elena was introduced on WaT. The first episode she was in seemed to all be directed toward her. She was in a majority of scenes, and each scene seemed to be focused on her. When she was investigating with Samantha, she took over (with both good results and bad). Another example is when Samantha was comforting the upset missing person at the end, her attention wasn’t on the crying woman before her, but rather on Elena. The camera started on Samantha and the MP, but quickly shifted and remained on Elena. Then, after a break, an episode in which she was only in basic investigation scenes, it was back to all about her. She kept relating herself to the MP because they both tried to break out of their culture/family life. She even took the photo off of the board at the end. That leads me to another point. Elena is too similar to the other characters on the show. The story of escaping family ties could have just as easily (perhaps better) have been told from the perspective of Danny. The newbie making mistakes thing? Martin already did that. The pretty female FBI agent? That would be Samantha. The brash, no-nonsense, rather cynical agent? That is Jack. What purpose does she serve? Ziva, on the other hand, brings a unique perspective to the show. She is a Mossad agent, making her quite competent, but also making it so she is “tougher” than the NCIS agents, often wanting to do things that aren’t quite legal here. She also has an interesting personality that acts as a good foil for both Tony and McGee when they are out investigating.I think that the style of show also helps me to like Ziva more. One of the strengths of WaT is that it delves in-depth into the lives of the people that are being investigated, making the audience feel for connected to them and care about their fates. This, however, means that there is limited time devoted to personal stories and character interactions. Adding another person to the mix means even less time for the already established characters. NCIS has always been as much (more?) about the characters as about the stories. The interactions between the characters are as important as the death/mystery of the week. Adding another character just gives more opportunities for interaction through which characters can be explored. The last factor is the one thing that I don’t think WaT could have done anything about. The rest, they botched. There was an opportunity, and I don’t think they did a good job with it.Another problem that I’m having with WaT that I’m not having with NCIS is that the quality seems to be deteriorating (even not including Elena). I was worried about NCIS because they had said that they were going to go darker. They didn’t. They managed to keep the tone from last year. Even while the characters were mourning Kate, the show managed to interject some humor. NCIS is also doing a really good job with continuity. They managed to resolve the storylines from last year (mostly to my satisfaction, even the Ari thing), but they haven’t completely dropped it. It still seems like Abby is mourning Kate, and resentful of the person who took her spot. Tony actually made a reference to Kate as if she were still alive and then had to catch himself as he remembered the truth. Gibbs is still feeling guilty about Kate dying on his watch, which is leading him to be overprotective of the other team members. Compare that to WaT. Vivian had risky open heart surgery in the season finale, but except for a mention that she was cleared to come back a week before Martin was, it hasn’t been dealt with. I’m surprised that the FBI would even let her back to missing persons (rather than white collar or some other desk-type job) after that. And what about her husband? Her child? Jack went through a nasty divorce and custody battle. Nothing is happening there? Not even a mention of him calling his kids? I would think that he would want to do so after the kids bombing the school story, but what do I know? I’m not too concerned with the dropping of Danny’s PTSD yet, because I’m giving them credit that it will rear its ugly head in the near future. If it gets dropped completely, after he was so affected by it earlier, I will be really pissed. What? They can’t mention that he’s visiting Dr. Lisa or something? Samantha had to do a lot of counselling before she was allowed back after the events in “Fallout” and “The Bus”, so why isn’t that happening here? And then, Martin. There was nice continuity at first with the cane. But then the cane was dropped, with no explanation. I only sprained my ankle, and I still don’t run right. He was shot, and he seemed to be moving quite fine last episode. Has a lot of time passed? What’s going on with that?It also seems that WaT’s basic stories aren’t as good as last year. The bombing story didn’t seem quite right. I didn’t particularly care for the Cold Case-type story they attempted the following week. I didn’t really like this week’s “daughter of immigrants” story either. Where are the (believable) twists? Where are the characters that I really care about and desperately want to be found? NCIS’s cases haven’t been amazing this year, but they haven’t deteriorated from last year. In fact, considering the state of a few of the cases last year, they might even have improved a bit. *sigh* WaT is (was?) my favorite drama on television. I can only hope that it regains its previous quality level. And soon.(Warning, minor spoilers through both seasons so far.)Okay, now that I’ve finally gotten around to making that lengthy comparison post (it has been floating around in my head for a week or so now), I’m on to a bunch of fun memes.

OMG

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

OMG! I was watching MacGyver today (shut up! I needed something that I didn’t really have to pay attention to because I was working on Photoshop), and I thought that this security guard looked a bit familiar. In fact, I thought he looked a lot familiar, like a young Martin. Then he spoke, and it was a baby Eric Close! I wanted to confirm this, so I went to IMDB’s Eric Close entry, and I didn’t see anything about it at first. But then, I went to the bottom of the page, and the last (earliest) “Notable TV Guest Appearances” entry was… “MacGyver” playing “Guard” in episode: “The Prometheus Syndrome” (episode # 7.4) 7 October 1991 . He looked and sounded so young! Now I really wish I was taping this episode as I would love to see his brief 2 minute performance again. Wow. How far he has come. *grin*Edited to add pictoral evidencecourtesy of All Eric Close, specifically in this MacGyver subgalleryThanks smilla02 for the link!

fanfiction meme

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Okay, I saw this in halfdutch’s and liianna’s journals, and you know me and memes; they’re like my crack.FanfictonDo you read or write fanfiction?Read onlyWhen did you first start reading/writing fanfiction?August 2004, when the Gilmore Girls fandom sunk its claws into meWhat was your first fandom?see aboveFirst ship?in FF, Luke/Lorelai; in general, Michael/NikitaWhat website do you use most?LJWhat do you think of Fanfiction.net?I started there, and through much effort found some decent authors/stories (and a few really good ones!). I mostly just use my author alerts now, rather than searching for new stories. What fandoms have you written in?None, as I’m sparing everyone the pain of reading that.Pairings?N/AAny fandoms you would like to write in?Yes, but I don’t have the talent to pull it off.Do reviews affect how you write in any way?Nope, as I don’t write, but as reviews affect the way I icon sometimes, I’d have to say that they probably would. (Have I ever mentioned my all-consuming need for approval before? *grin*)Do you use a beta?I am a beta sometimes, and I believe every author should use at least one, does that count? What ratings do you read/write?Everything.What warnings have you used on your fiction/read?I don’t usually pay attention to the warnings. This could result in my eyes burning one day, but so far I’ve been safe. I know I’ve read angst, character death, non-con, graphic sex, graphic language, violence, um… I’m sure there are more.Do you have any squicks? The idea of certain characters in a romantic story quick me out enough that I won’t even give the story a chance, but usually I’ll try anything.Do you Role-play online? If so, what?Nope.Have you ever stolen something from another person’s work?I would never do that.Favorite fandom to write/read?I read mostly Lost and NCIS (although I am so far behind in both!) Recently, I’ve read a bit of La Femme Nikita.Favorite pairing?I can’t say just one. Jack/Sawyer, Sawyer/Kate, Michael/Nikita, Kate/Gibbs, Tony/Kate, Kate/Ari, Luke/Lorelai, Calleigh/EricFavorite writer/writers?Way too many to list here! *see below if really curious How long should a chapter be?As long as the author thinks it should be and can make work. I’ve read short and long chapters that work and ones that don’t work.Do you write/read drabbles?I read them, but they don’t usually stick with me.Any fandoms you avoid? If I don’t watch a show, I’m not in the fandom. For shows I watch, I tend to stay away from the Tony/Kate and Nick/Sara fandoms (although I like the stories) because the people involved tend to be um, let’s just say, a little immature.Pairings you avoid?I’m usually pretty open about pairings (at least ones that I’ve seen written; I’m not sure I’d be up for a Locke/Hurley romance anytime soon). As for ones that are written, I won’t read: Grissom/anyone (the man couldn’t have a healthy relationship if his life depended on it!), Horatio/anyone (*shudder*), and Charlie/anyone (I really, really dislike Charlie).Warnings you avoid?None so far. Of course, I trust the authors that I read, so I’m willing to try most anything.Do the number of reviews tell how good a story is?Nope. The quality of reviews does. If it’s a bunch of “OMG!!1!! taht wz teh best fic evah!!!one!!!”, that would actually more tell me to stay away. If the story has only a few reviews, but they are written in real English and/or are thoughtful, that is more of an indicator that it is a good story. What do you think of Mary Sues?It depends on how blatent it is. There were a couple of stories that I just couldn’t finish because the Mary-Sue-ishness was too pronounced, but if it’s not too bad, I can deal with it.Have you ever flamed someone? No. If I don’t like something, I ignore it.Have you ever been flamed?Nope. That’s it, aren’t you glad?Eh, I am quite loquacious, and could go on forever when I care about a topic, so, not so glad… *grin*CREATE YOUR OWN! – or – GET PAID TO TAKE SURVEYS!I also included a fanfic author rec because the meme asked for my favorite author and I couldn’t say just one. If you’re interested in some CSI (Sara/Nick), CSI: Miami (Calleigh/Eric), Gilmore Girls (Lorelai/Luke), Highlander (just one story, but it’s a good one), La Femme Nikita (all kinds), Law

Recap of the WaT season finale, “Endgame”

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Last new ep of the season… A guy gives Paige a cup of coffee in her cubicle. She comments that he used paper cups instead of Styrofoam this time. She jokes/flirts with him a bit, and he walks off saying, We are who we are, right? She responds with, I guess. (If that isnt a prophetic exchange on this show, I dont know what is) She stands up and sees a guy walking into the office. The smile fades off her face and becomes a look of panic when she sees the guy asking questions and being directed over to her. She sinks down into her seat, and the coffee guy asks her what the matter is. The guy looks pretty menacing as he walks over to her cubicle. Paige is no longer there. Coffee guy (I think that Paige said his name is Kevin, so Im going with that) said that she told him she needed some air. Cut to Paige looking quite upset and walking quickly out of the office. She fades away.23 hours missing. Martin is questioning the boss about the guy that came to look for Paige. The guy told the boss that his name was Detective Bowman and he just wanted to see Paige about a routine inquiry. Martin asks the boss if Paige was in any trouble. He says that he didnt think so, but her roommate said that Paige didnt come home the night before, and with the police showing up Paige has been at Infomerge for 2 years; her job involves data analysis. (They collect market records on people and then sell it to companies based on the demographic that the companies want to target with advertising.) Jack interrupts and pulls Martin out to tell him that he contacted the NYPD and Detective Bowman doesnt exist. This is the point that I wish the promos hadnt given away that she was involved in terrorism. She seemed like such a great person, and the case seemed like it could go in any direction, but knowing the terrorism angle limits any possibilities that I might have otherwise considered.24 hours missing. Kevin confirms the picture of the cop was the guy that wigged Paige out. He tells Jack that theyve known each other for six months but nothing is going on outside of work. Im not her type. Too shallow. With a half-smirk on his face, Jack says, Thats an honest admission and then asks what her type is. Kevin says, Put it this way, shes a do-gooder. She is involved in a bunch of activist organizations such as Greenpeace. Jack asks how she can reconcile that with working at Infomerge. Kevin says that she did feel like a sell-out, and it came to a head a few months ago. Flashback to Kevin telling Paige that Fit n Thin wants to gather data on a certain group of people. (Side note: Nice continuity connecting this episode to American Goddess. It tunes in to the feelings that Danny and Samantha expressed in that episode.) They are looking for ten million females, 25-49, single or divorced, Caucasian (because as a group white women are more dissatisfied with their bodies) Paige gets a bit upset and says, All this information, this great technology, to hawk diet pills. There are kids going hungry, there are people without health care, there are schools without textbooks, and were doing this? Doesnt it ever bother you? Kevin tells her that she does a lot of stuff on her own that redeem her. Unlike me, you actually make a difference. She looks dejected and says, Not enough of one. Not even close. Kevin says, I think you just need to get laid. She gives a delayed smile, scoffs, and says, Thats your solution to everything. Kevin tells Jack that a few weeks later Paige was a new person, all mellowed out, looking better. Jack says, So you think she took your advice. Kevin says that he knows she did, but he doesnt have any idea who she is seeing.Cut to a hospital and a doctor entering Vivians room, asking how she is doing. He explains the procedure to her. To make a long story shortThey will prep her, stop her heart, and put her on a bypass machine. The doctor will surgically thin out the heart muscle and then restart her heart. The whole procedure should take a few hours, and although there are risks, the doctor is confident that it will go well; hes done a lot of these procedures. Vivian doesnt look so reassured.Cut to Martin who tells Jack that the coffee vendor outside of Paiges building thought that he saw someone matching her description hop into a cab. Martin tells Jack that he has agents back at the office contacting dispatchers. Jack tells him to also have the agents distribute pictures of her to the train and bus stations, the Transit Authority, and the airports. Jack says that he will see Martin back at the office, but he has to make a stop first.25 hours missing. Paiges roommate has never seen the cop before. Samantha asks her if Paige has any enemies. The roommate says that she doesnt and asks if anyone has contacted Paiges sister in Cincinnati. Samantha says that the sister has been contacted and is flying in. Danny asks if it is okay for him to look at the computer. The roommate says that it is fine. Samantha asks about the person Paige is dating. The roommate says that Paige had been dating him for a few months and it was the happiest she had ever seen her, but Paige wouldnt tell her his name; she assumed he was married. She has never seen him, and as far as she knows, he has never been by the apartment (although she is out of town three weeks a month). Danny found some pictures, including one of a guy, and he shows them to her. She says that she has no idea who the people are. Samantha says that right before she went missing, Paige made a call to Julia Gomez. Julia is a girl that Paige has been mentoring. About a week ago, she came to the apartment. Flashback to an agitated Julia telling Paige that she is eight weeks pregnant and doesnt know what to do; she doesnt believe in abortion, cant raise the child on her own, and doesnt think adoption will work. Julia says that the father told her to get an abortion or he will kill her; hes a cop, and she thinks he is married. Julia breaks down in tears, and Paige hugs her. Samantha asks the roommate if she knows if Julia told Paige the cops name. The roommate doesnt know, but adds, Paige is really devoted to that girl. Knowing her, she didnt let it go. (Once again, I feel the need to mention that Im upset that the promos gave away that this is a terrorist related case. I so would have bought the angry cop going after Paige because she interfered in this situation angle if I hadnt already known that it wasnt that. Damn promo weasels.) The phone rings, and the roommate goes to answer it.Cut to Danny and Samantha driving down the street. They find Julia and introduce themselves. They show her the picture of the cop who was after Paige and ask her if he was her boyfriend. She says that she has never seen that guy before. Samantha tells her that the guy in the picture was after Paige and now Paige is missing. Danny asks her what Paige called her about. Julia tells them that Paige called her to say she needed to come by, and when she did stop by, Julia knew something was up. Flashback to Paige pulling up in a taxi. She looks really worried/agitated. She gives Julia a package for her baby. Julia gets upset and says, Youre bailing on me, arent you. Paige responds that she isnt bailing on her, but she has to leave. She gives Julia a hug and then jumps back in the cab. She tells Julia not to tell anyone she saw her and has the driver leave. Julia opens the package and takes out a bundle of cash. She tells Danny and Samantha that it was $50,000. She says that she was worried about what was happening with Paige but was afraid that if she called the cops, she would get Paige into worse trouble. Danny says that they are going to need the money, and she retorts that she doesnt care about the moneyshe just wants Paige back.Cut to the hospital. Vivian is lying in bed, not looking so great physically. She also looks extremely worried. The camera pans to the door as Jack enters. Vivian isnt so happy to see him. She says that she told him she didnt want any visitors. Do you think I want you to see me like this? Jack looks flustered and says in a soft voice, Oh, uh You know, Im really sorryI didnt think it through. I just wanted you to know that I wasumthinking about youand uhI didnt mean to barge in. Im sorry. He turns to go, and Vivian stops him by saying Three oclock. Thats the time that shell be in surgery. Jack says, Okay, take care, and leaves.26 hours missing. Back in the office, Samantha says that she got the information on the cop that Julia gave them and he is in the clear on Paige but internal affairs is all over him. Danny then chimes in saying that they lucked out with the money; they were able to trace it via the bands around it to a specific account at a specific bank. Samantha walks over to Danny and sits on the edge of his desk. Martin looks over at them with a serious expression on his face, but doesnt say anything. The account is in the name of Sara Reynolds and contains $250,000. Danny obtains Saras drivers license picture, and it turns out that she is really Paige. Danny says, She really gets around. Samantha responds, Ill say. 250 grand, a secret boyfriend Martin interjects with, That might explain this. Samantha gets up off of Dannys desk and goes over to Martin. He says that there is such an advanced security system on her computer that he cant find anything other than another picture of the guy that was also in the pictures at the apartment. Danny tells them that the sister just got here and asks if they want to take her. Their heads swivel around in unison at that. Then Martin says, Why not? and Samantha looks at him. The closed captioning says that Samantha responds with sure while Martin gets up, but I didnt hear anything. She does give him a couple of interesting (not-so-happy) glances as she gathers up her stuff to follow him, however.Cut to the interrogation room. Martin shows Paiges sister the picture of the guy he found on Paiges computer. She says that his name is Adisa Teno and Paige met him in Makeba, Africa about 4 years ago when she went there to work for a relief organization just after graduating college. Samantha asks her if Paige has seen Adisa recently. Her sister says that she didnt think so, until two weeks ago. She stopped by Paiges place when she was in town on business, and he was there. Cut to a flashback of Adisa, Paige, and her sister sitting quietly. The sister looks strained and makes what seems to be another attempt at polite conversation by asking when Adisa got into town. He says that he got there two months ago. The sister looks a bit hurt by the fact that she didnt know this earlier, and says, Two months. Paige, you never even said anything. Paige says that she wanted to keep him to herself. The sister tries to continue the conversation. So, youll be staying in the United States. What about Makeba? Adisa says that he is not welcome in his country. She looks a little taken aback and asks why that is. Paige jumps on her with indignation. Beth (yay, a name other than the sister!) dont you know whats going on there? Whats happening to his people? Beth looks uncomfortable and says that she thought that they elected a new president. Paige just starts going off about the corrupt general, his death squads, and other oh-so-cheerful information. Adisa tries to calm her down by putting his hand on her arm and asking if they could change the subject, but she doesnt even acknowledge him or his attempt. Paige continues her rant, saying, You know what the drug companies are doing about it? Beth states, Drug companies like the one Im with, you mean. Paige doesnt let that stop her. Theyre overcharging for AIDS medication. Theyre doing experimental drug trials on kidsOn kids, Beth! Beth calmly retorts, And youre on a moral high ground working for Infomerge. This, of course, doesnt calm Paige down. Well, at least Im trying to help! Adisa finally connects with Paige and gets her to stop talking politics. Despite the fact the discussion is over, the tension is still thick in the air. Neither Beth nor Paige looks at all happy. Finally Paige gives a tiny smile, and she and Adisa kiss. Beth tells Samantha and Martin that when she had a moment alone with Paige, she had asked her flat out if Adisa might be with her just for a green card, but Paige said that they were in love. Martin says, But you had a bad feeling about him. Beth responds, Paige is a sucker for strays. Even when we were kids, she would always rescue them no matter how many times they bit her.Cut to Jack in the main office asking Samantha if Beth gave them anything useful. She gives him the boyfriends name, and he says that he will track it down. Danny then interjects, saying that the tech found a lot on Paiges work computer. She had downloaded over a million records (names, credit cards, social security numbers). Samantha clarifiesidentity theft. Jack says, Either wayshe sold the data to a fraud ring, or shes part of one. He then finds Adisa Tenos name on the terrorist watch list. Hes a member of the Makeba Liberation Front. Danny says that maybe Adisa is connected to Jeraf Holdings. Paiges bank account has fluctuated between $250,000 and $1,000,000, and the money is transferred out to an account in the name of Jeraf Holdings every few weeks. The last transfer was yesterday, after Paige disappeared. Samantha asks if they should contact the CIA, but Jack says that instead they should go straight to the source.Cut to Danny looking sort of furtive with hunched shoulders and sunglasses, walking along a sidewalk. The camera then pans around to show Samantha and Jack crossing a street. Samantha asks Jack if he thinks Vivian will be okay. He says that he doesnt know. He then asks Samantha how she is doing. She gets defensive and asks, What do you mean? He says innocently, How are you? How are you doing? Samantha remains defensive and curtly replies, Its not affecting my work, Jack. Jack queries, What isnt? Samantha states, Me and Martin. Jack tells her that he wasnt talking about Martin, and Samantha replies, What were you talking about? Jack frustratedly retorts, I was just trying to have a damn conversation. Samantha starts to say something conciliatory, but interrupts herself when she spies the cop that was after Paige getting out of a car. The cop starts talking to General Gamba. Samantha says that she cant wait to see what he has to say for himself, but Jack says they cant ask him there because they have no jurisdiction. Jack tells her to go back to the office and see if she can put a name to the face. Samantha asks what he is going to do, and he replies, He cant stay inside there forever. Samantha walks off.Cut to the operating room. Vivian has been prepped for surgery. The doctor talks with her for a bit, and then the anesthesiologist puts her under.Cut to Samantha talking on the phone to Jack. She says that the website has the names of the consulate staff, but no pictures. He asks if there are any non-African names on the list (as the cop was Caucasian), and she responds that she cant see any. Jack cuts the conversation short because he sees the cop in question outside of the consulate. He introduces himself, and the other guy says that he is Emil Donfros, security attach for General Gamba. (Can I say how cute it was that Jack (even after all of these times that he has flashed his ID) initially had his ID upside down and flipped it over after glancing down at it?) Jack asks Emil what his interest is in Paige. Emil responds with a question of his own, Whats yours? Jack says that Paige is missing. Emil says that he was unaware of that fact. He went to Paiges office because his counterintelligence has identified her as having close ties to Adisa Teno. He continues that Adisa and the M.L.F. are a grave threat to the General, possibly trying to assassinate him, and could possibly also be a threat to Makeba and Paige herself. Jack retorts that being a threat to Makeba is the perception of General Gamba here. Emil says that the General has brought order, while Adisa and his people just want anarchy. And more people will die. He then walks away from Jack. Jack says that hes not done with him, but Emil says that he is now within the five meter buffer zone of the consulate so is technically on foreign soil and thus untouchable. Cut to Martin saying that he has a lead on Paige. She changed cabs several times and was ultimately dropped off at the corner of South and Fulton. Martin says that after that her trail gets cold. Danny disagrees, saying, No, actually, her trail gets hot. Jeraf Holdings owns a warehouse two blocks away from there.28 hours missing. Cut to the exterior said warehouse and armed agents taking up position. Jack speaks into his radio asking if they have the exits covered. Martin replies in the affirmative. Jack gives the order to head in, and they do so. They interrupt people with shredded documents and other cover-up preparations. Lots of weapons can be seen lying around. Jack stops Adisa, who is coming down some stairs and asks him where Paige is. He doesnt answer.29 hours missing. Jack is with Adisa in interrogation. Jack reads the very impressive list of armaments that were found in the warehouse (including 16 rocket launchers). He then looks Adisa in the eyes, leans in, and deadpans, You know, I would say that you were taking our second amendment just a bit too far. He then opens up a rifle case, saying And I would assume that this is what you intended to assassinate General Gamba with. Adisa tries to act as if he is on the moral high ground and says, Dont you think he deserves it? Jack responds that General Gamba is not his concern, and Adisa retorts, Shouldnt he be? Adisa then claims that Jack works for General Gamba and that Jack will end up deporting Adisa back to Makeba, where he will be shot. Jack stays calm and says, My only concern is Paige. Now where is she? Adisa tries to claim that he hasnt seen her, but Jack says that he is lying because they found her fingerprints all over the warehouse. Jack starts to rant about how Adisa was just using Paige and her Infomerge information to make money. Adisa says that it wasnt about money. Jack retorts, It sure aint about love either, because the minute she became a liability, you got rid of her. Adisa is very agitated at this point and shouts, Thats not true! Jack then calmly accuses Adisa of not helping Paige when she came to see him after Emil tracked her down at her office. Jack then shows Adisa a picture of Emil and asks him if he knows who the guy is. Adisa says that all he knows is that the man is a killer. Jack replies, Thats what he says about you.Cut to another M.L.F. member in a different interrogation room. He tells Danny and Martin that he knows nothing about their white girl. Danny then very authoritatively says, Based on the weapon charges alone, we can detain you indefinitely. Now, if you help us find the girl, we will help you. The terrorist asks how they can help him, and Martin says, By not deporting you to Makeba. Now, Im sure that the people running that country would love to have you back. Danny and Martin do a really good job of tag teaming the terrorist, finishing each others sentences, and basically telling him that they have completely wrapped up the assassination plot, hes screwed, and he might as well talk to them. The terrorist says something vehemently in an African language. Then he says, Its because of that bitch. Flashback to Adisa testing and adjusting the scope on a rifle, while the other terrorist looks on. The door opens, admitting Paige. The other terrorist quickly pulls out his gun and points it at her, but Adisa stops him and asks Paige what she is doing there. She tells them that one of Gambas men stopped by her office. The other terrorist says that she was probably followed to the warehouse, but she says she wasnt; she changed cabs. Adisa says, If he can find you there, then he can find us here. We need to pack up and go. Paige notices all of the weaponry and asks Adisa what it all is. Adisa calmly says, General Gamba is in town. When word of his death reaches our forces in Makeba, theyll storm the presidential palace. Paige is visibly upset and says that Adisa told her that the money was for opposition candidates and relief supplies. Adisa responds, These are relief supplies. He says that she must have known deep down. She stares at him dumbfoundedly for a second and then asks, Adisa, what happened to you? He tells her that they murdered his family, including burning his brother alive. He very impassionedly says, It requires one moment to spark a revolution. A moment that moves the people to rise up and take action! This is that moment, I can feel it! It doesnt convince Paige. She says that she cannot do it; she doesnt have it in her. She moves to go, but Adisa stops her by grabbing her arm and saying that he doesnt think he can let her go. The other terrorist steps in and says that he always knew that involving her was a mistake. He seems much colder about the whole situation than Adisa does. Adisa tells the other terrorist to leave because Paige and I musttalk. Because of the pause before he says, talk, it sounds like he means to do anything but. The other terrorist walks away, giving a suspicious glance over his shoulder as he does so. He tells Danny and Martin that he went for a walk on the docks and when he returned, Paige was gone. Adisa didnt tell him what he had done, but, I know what I would have done. His body language gives every indication that what he would have done would not have been nice and probably would have ended with Paiges death.Cut to Jack telling Adisa that he knows that Paige wanted nothing to do with the situation and accusing him of killing her. Adisa says that he never could have hurt her. Flashback to Adisas conversation with Paige. He apologizes. Paige says that she sees why he is doing what he is doing, but she cannot be a part of it. He states, But you will let me do what must be done. She doesnt answer him but gives him a sort of dejected half nod before asking, Was any of it real between us? Adisa replies, You will always be in my heart. Paige sighs and wishes him luck. Adisa asks if she means it, and she gives an emphatic nod this time. They hug. When they separate, Adisa gives her a gun. She gives him a shocked look. Adisa tells her, You dont believe in hurting people, but dont let them hurt you. He then strokes her cheek and opens the car door for her. Jack says in a rather sarcastic tone, You know, that is incredibly heartwarming. Jack asks where Paige was taken, but Adisa wont tell him. Jack then accuses Adisa of shooting Paige with the gun, rather than giving it to her.Cut to Jack walking towards Samanthas desk. She asks him what he got from Adisa. He replies that he didnt get much and asks what shes got. She shows him a picture of Emil and says, Neil Dornvald. Hes from South Africa. Served in the 32 battalion. Since then hes worked as a mercenary for private armies in Angola, the Congo, Sierra Leonehe also did work for the CIA. Danny walks up to them and peers at the picture. Martin can then be heard on the phone saying, Right. When? Paige was spotted at Grand Central. She bought a one-way to Cincinnati. Its set to leave at 2:45, so they have 20 minutes. Jack tells Martin to get the train held because they are on their way. Cut to Grand Central, and Sam striding quickly to meet up with Jack. She tells him that Paige isnt on the train, so maybe she changed her mind about traveling. He says that there is a transit cop covering every exit and that she should sweep the train again. Samantha walks away, and Jack notices a clock that says it is three oclock. He stares off into the distance with a serious expression on his face.Cut to the operating room. Vivian is out cold and the surgeon is finishing up. He gets the internal paddles to start her heart back up, but despite being shocked numerous times, the monitor still shows a flatline. He says, Come on, once more, as he shocks her again, but the steady beep still sounds.30 hours missing. Back at the offices, Danny spots a picture of Vivian with Reggie on her desk and gets a serious look on his face. His musings are interrupted by Martin who says that some activity popped up on Paiges cell account at 2:38. Someone called her twice and sent a picture message. The call came from Julia Gomezs phone.Cut to Samantha and Jack getting out of a car. Police radios can be heard in the background. Jack flashes his ID and asks what is going on. The cop directs them to an alley where another cop tells them that Julia Gomez has been murdered. Her body is in a small offshoot of the alley; she has been shot once in the forehead. Samantha notices Julias cell phone lying next to her body and comments that she must have called Paige right before she was killed. Jack picks up the phone and says that whoever called Paige, it wasnt Julia. He then shows Samantha that the picture that was sent to Paige was of Julias corpse. Samantha asks the cop if they have any suspects. He says that a couple of witnesses saw a tall white man get into a car and leave the scene. Jack asks what kind of car it was. The cop says that it was an SUV. Samantha murmurs, Dornvald. They both look grim.32 hours missing. Cut to Danny telling Jack on the phone that they are all dialed in. He put out an APB and an interagency alert on Dornvald, plus stop notices at all of the airports, border crossings Jack tells him to keep them posted. He then asks from his headquarters in the car if everyone is clear on the plan. Martin says that they are, while he and Samantha walk across the same street that Jack and Samantha did earlier. They all wait. Jack uses this opportunity to call Saint Andrews Hospital. While Martin and Samantha pretend to be a couple looking at the newspaper, Jack tries to get information about Vivians condition but is just told that she is still in surgery. More waiting ensues. Jack tells Martin and Samantha, Heads up, a cars coming, and their heads swivel up from the paper simultaneously. Jack gets out of his car. He tells them to move into second position. The SUV pulls up to the curb. Jack inches toward the car. A guy gets out and starts to open up the back door. Jack says, Lets drag this guy out of the five meter zone if we have to. The door opens fully, allowing General Gamba to get out. Alone. A man races out of the consulate and whispers something urgently into the Generals ear. Jack says, Lets reset, and all three of them walk away. Cut to Paige hiding behind a newsstand and watching the General. She calmly and determinedly walks toward him. Jack glances back and sees her resolute progress. He tells Samantha and Martin that he just made Paige heading their way. She pulls a gun out of her bag. Martin is the first to react, whipping out his gun and yelling, Shes got a gun! Paige, drop the gun! Samantha also takes out her weapon, but they are too late. Paige fires three shots point blank into General Gamba. Martin gets Paige down on the ground, while Samantha gets the consulate security people to drop their weapons and Jack calls for a paramedic. Paige looks a little shell shocked while lying on the ground with her hands behind her back, almost like she cannot believe what she has done. Cut to the interrogation room. Paige is writing something, while Samantha watches. After a few moments of silence, Samantha says, You dont seem like the type. Paige looks up from her writing and calmly says, Im not. Samantha asks if it was the plan all along that she would be the shooter. When Paige responds negatively, Samantha asks why she did it. Paige says that she was about to leave for Cincinnati when everything changed. Flashback to Paige receiving a cell phone call while at Grand Central Station. It is Dornvald. He tells her they need to talk about Adisa Teno, and she hangs up on him. He calls back and when she asks who he is and what he wants, he says, I just sent you something. Paige looks down at the screen of her phone and sees the picture of Julias corpse. She is horrified and asks what he did to Julia. Dornvald calmly replies, There will be no assassination. Adisa is under arrest. Its all done but the cleanup. Which is where you come in. I want names, faces, locations of the other M.L.F. members to ensure that this never happens again. In return, Ill stop killing people you love. Sounds like you are in a train station, Miss Hobson. Which one? Paige gets a determined expression on her face as he is giving his speech and she tells him that shes in Hartford, Connecticut. He tells her to expect him in two hours and then hangs up and cavalierly throws the phone back down next to Julia and walks off. Paige resolutely stalks out of the train station. She then says to Samantha, Adisa says that there is a moment that makes people take action. I guess that was my moment. Samantha asks why she didnt go after Dornvald, and she replies, Because hes not the real problem. But he should pay for what he did. Samantha says that he will when they find him. Her phone then rings. She listens for a moment in silence then thanks the person on the other end. She then quietly tells Paige, Its murder now. General Gamba is dead. Paige doesnt look happy that she was successful in her assassination attempt. In fact, there are tears welling in her eyes, and her lip is quivering a bit; however, all she says is, I always wanted to make a difference. Maybe now I have. Samantha just stares at her until she finally looks back down at the table.Cut to Jack, who is back in the interrogation room with Adisa. Jack tells him that news of the Generals assassination reached the rebels, who stormed the palace. Unfortunately for the rebels, news of the assassination also reached the government and they fortified the building. Adisa tries to act positive, saying, So its a battle. Jack says that with Gamba out of the way, there might be a chance for things to get better. He then collects his papers and starts to leave. Adisa then asks how Paige is. Jack tells him, Shes not the girl you first met, and then heads out the door. Adisa sighs. Jack looks at him through the one-way glass.Cut to Martin removing the picture of Paige from the missing persons whiteboard. He then removes the picture of Adisa from the neighboring board. He then glances over at a television which is showing fire and mayhem with the caption Uprising in Makeba. He then glances back at Dornvalds picture on the board, but doesnt remove it.Cut to Samantha escorting a handcuffed Paige out of interrogation.Cut to Danny handcuffing Adisa and he and Martin escorting him into the elevator. As they get into the elevator, Adisa sees Paige with Samantha. They look at each other but dont acknowledge each other.Cut to Jack walking quickly through the hallways of the hospital. He reaches his destinationthe waiting room containing Vivians husband. He is sitting down with his head in his hands. He looks serious for a moment, but then he smiles, even as he has tears in his eyes, and nods. Jack gives a small smile in return.Cut to a car driving down the street. Martin is driving, with Danny beside him, and Adisa is being transported in the back. The silence is broken by the ring of Dannys cell phone. Its Jack telling him that Vivian is going to be okay. Danny breaks into a huge grin and tells Martin that Viv is fine. As they pull up to a light, a van cuts in front of them. Danny ends the conversation, and Jack turns to look through the window at an unconscious Vivian. The light turns green, but the van in front of the guys car doesnt move. Martin impatiently says, Come on, man, lets go. Its a green light. He honks the horn. The camera flashes to Adisa and then to Danny as he says, At least were ending the day on an up note. (Damn, Danny, why did you have to curse it like that?!?!) Martin agrees and looks over at him. They share a glance and a smirk. Then the back doors of the van in front of them open up, discharging two men with automatic weapons who commence firing at the car. With ominous music, the screen goes to black. My heart jumps. 3 months?!?! We have to wait 3 months to find out what happens?!?!?! My only hope is since Martin and Danny were transporting a prisoner, their car might have been equipped with bulletproof glass. Nothing is allowed to happen to either of my boys! (At least nothing serious. Wounding is okay, death is not.)All I can say is TPTB are evil. Evil I tell you! I cannot believe that they are making us wait all summer for resolution to this. (I suppose I should get used to this feeling as I am sure that Lost is going to end with a cliffhanger as well *sigh*

Recap of WaT episode “Bogie Man”

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Yet another recap by request… The camera pans across a small town and over the woods. It then focuses on a young teenage girl. She is clutching a small cross made of two sticks tied together and looking back warily over her shoulder. Flashes of her walking are intercut with flashes of another young teenage girl running along the same path. The other girl is running at night and looks absolutely terrified. The two girls journeys are filmed as interconnected: when the first girl steps over a branch, the other girl is then shown stumbling over a branch. The second girl trips over a root and falls down, crying. The camera pans in as if a person is walking toward her. The camera angle changes to show her viewpoint, and a shadowy figure can be seen looming over her. The first girl is at the same spot, hammering her cross in with a rock. She then gets up and starts to walk away. As she looks over her shoulder at the cross, the scene flashes back to the second girl. She is lying on the ground, crying, No! while a man stands over her and grabs her jacket at the shoulders. The first girl is then shown walking away, fading into nothingness.17 hours missing. Back at the offices, Samantha is walking in with a brown paper bag. She hands it to Martin, telling him that she got him a bagel. She then says, Listen, I was thinking, about your cousins wedding, and umI would like to go. I mean, obviously, Im a little nervous, but I think youre right. I think its time. Martin tells her that he already booked his flight. She starts to respond, but he cuts her off with, Well, actually, thats not true. I havent, but Im going to. Im going to go by myself. Throughout this whole start to the scene, he seems to have trouble looking her in the eyes; he finally does so with the last sentence. She asks if something is wrong. He replies, No. I justI dont want to do this anymore. Samantha looks a little shocked and asks, What? Martin continues, Im just tired of playing games. And frankly, Im not interested in waiting around while you figure out your problems. Samantha seems quite shocked by this and starts to stammer out, My problemssowhat are you sayingwere done? I mean, were done? Martin says, Well, not just like that, but, yeah. I am. Jack interrupts them and drops a file on Martins desk, saying, This is Daisy Thorpe. Ill call you from the car and give you the details. Sam, were going to head Upstate. Sam still looks a bit shell-shocked, and she lags behind at Martins desk for a bit. Samantha follows Jack, glancing over her shoulder once back at Martin, and catches up to Jack in the hallway. To add insult to injury, Jack tells her, I dont know whats going on with you two, but I want you to keep it out of the office. Samantha might have been responsible for the break-up, but that is a truly terrible way to kick off the morning. The camera then focuses in on Martin, sitting dejectedly at his desk. I know that Martin breaking up with Samantha like that in the office was a bit harsh, but I honestly get the opinion from his body language that although he had already resigned himself to breaking up with her, he hadnt been planning on doing it at that moment until Samantha forced his hand by mentioning the wedding, and he wasnt ready for the actual reality of it all.18 hours missing. Jack and Samantha walk up to the local cops who are at the scene and introduce themselves. The locals seem really hostile. They ask who called in the FBI, and Jack tells them that Daisys parents did. The local sheriff then deadpans, We need all the help we can get. This doesnt faze Jack, who responds, Yes, I can see that. It turns out that the cops are staking out the trailer of Curtis Horn, who they think is responsible for Daisys disappearance. Jack asks what they have on him, and they reply that he killed a young girl named Amber Bryce seven years ago but they couldnt prove it. The sheriff was the one who found Amber up near the old bridge, sexually assaulted and strangled to death. Curtis was her boyfriend and had been the last one to see her alive; they had an argument the morning of her death. There was no physical evidence at the crime scene. Jack says that he would like to talk to Curtis and starts walking toward the trailer. As they walk, the young local cop informs them that Amber was the Reverends daughter, while Curtiss whole family was scum. The sheriff introduces Samantha and Jack to Curtis and says that they would like to ask him a few questions about Daisy. He says that he doesnt know her. Samantha shows him a picture and asks him where he was yesterday afternoon. He says that he was at his trailer because no one will give him a job. Samantha asks why he hangs around, and he says that he stays around just to piss everyone off. Jack ends the interview, such as it was, with a deadpan remark and walks away. As he does, he tells the locals that he wants everything they have on Amber Bryces case and a 24/7 surveillance set up on Curtis. He leaves the cops there and tells Samantha as they walk away, All thats missing is the banjo music. Jack is in rare form today; I love the Deliverance reference.19 hours missing. Jack and Samantha are talking with Daisys parents. Samantha asks them why they waited 15 hours to file a report, and Daisys mother says it was because they thought she was just acting out. Her acting out started a few months ago: piercings, changing her hair color; her whole personality changed. They had a big argument the morning before. Flashback to the mother trying to be polite and asking what Daisy wants for breakfast and Daisy responding insolently. Daisy then takes a birth control pill in front of her mother and purposely taunts her. Daisy ends up walking out, saying that she is having sex with everyone and leaving her mother to just stand there and shake her head in frustration and resignation, trying to stop from crying. Back in the present, the father asks, She said that she was having sex with everyone? The parents are unaware of any contact that Daisy might have had with Curtis or of any boyfriend that she might have had. The scene shifts to Vivian who cannot open the child-proof lid on a bottle of pills, even with her teeth. The phone rings; its Danny. He pulled all of the old cases of girls that were missing, trying to find a connection to their current case, and he cannot read her handwriting on the two cases that were hers. The first case is actually of a woman in her seventies. That must be a seven and not a one, Im sorry. (Dannys expression as he says that is really cute.) As Danny gives her the name of the other missing girl, Vivians call-waiting beeps, and she takes the other call. She seems upset by it. She quickly goes back to Dannys line to say that she doesnt think the cases are related, but she hangs up when he asks her if everything is okay.20 hours missing. Samantha is walking down a hallway, talking on the phone with Martin. He tracked down the birth control pills to a family planning clinic and will fax her the subpoena for Daisys chart. Martin is a little more stiff/formal than normal, but Samantha is positively icy. She hangs up on him before the words are completely out of his mouth. Samantha enters the local station office and is faced with three stony cops. They stare at her and she just sighs. (This is so not her day!)Back at the FBI office, Danny comes up to Martins desk. He has Daisys phone records. She called Ambers father numerous times. Cut to Jack getting out of his car at the church. He sees the Reverend arguing with a guy. They both seem pretty worked up, and the other guy storms off. Jack asks the Reverend if he knows Daisy, and he replies that he is close to the family; both of Daisys parents are in the choir. Jack mentions, Its my understanding that shes been calling you a lot lately. At home. Reverend Bryce must have picked up on the same tone in Jacks voice that I did, because he immediately assumes that it is some kind of accusation and asks, What are you implying? Jack says that hes not implying anything; he just wants to know what they talked about. At first the Reverend says that he doesnt want to talk about it, but then he acquiesces and says that Daisy wanted to talk about Amber. The Reverend kept refusing until a few days ago she came by and wouldnt take No for an answer. Flashback to that conversation. Daisy is very insistent. She keeps asking questions about Amber such as whether she liked poetry, had any pets, or played any sports. She ties most of her questions back to her father. (She says with the pet question that her father is a vet, and when told that Amber played tennis, she says that her father does/did too.) She keeps going on about Amber, not noticing that the Reverend is very upset by the conversation. He finally loses it and shouts, My daughter is dead! Thats all you need to know about Amber. Shes dead! Daisy apologizes. The Reverend tells Jack that he shouldnt have exploded like that. Jack asks if the Reverend knows why Daisy is preoccupied with Amber. The Reverend says that everyone is; it really affected the town. Jack then asks about Ambers relationship with Curtis. Reverend Bryce says, Everything about it was wrong. He also says that he and Amber had had a conversation about it the night before her death, and she had promised that the next day she would stop seeing him.Back at the FBI offices, Samantha is questioning a teenage boy. She tells him that he is listed at Daisys emergency contact. He says, They said our charts were confidential. Samantha picks up on the our and asks, You went with her? When he nods, she asks if he is sleeping with her. When he responds negatively, she asks if he knows who Daisy was sleeping with. He says that Daisy isnt sleeping with anyone; she told him that she just got the birth control pills to freak her mother out. After commenting on Daisys strained relationship with her parents, Samantha asks him whether Daisy had ever mentioned the name Amber Bryce. The boy says, Are you kidding? Shes obsessed. Flashback to the boy and Daisy typing on side-by-side laptops. Daisy says, This is so sick! This whole Amber Bryce thing. Some pervert has sex with a thirteen-year-old girl and kills her, and no one in this town gives a damn. The boy says that they do. She says that they dont care enough to find out who did it. He retorts that they do know who did it. Daisy then asks why they dont do something about it then. They argue a bit about it, with Daisy becoming highly emotional. The boy tells Samantha that Daisy went to see Curtis the next day. Jack and Sam go to Curtiss trailer and discover that his car is gone and there is no surveillance. Jack enters the trailer and finds a pink sweater of Daisys. 21 hours missing. Samantha is calling in the description of the car while Jack is accosting the young cop. Jack says that he told him to keep an eye on Curtis. The young cop responds that he cruised by 3-4 times an hour. Jack asks why he didnt watch him constantly, and the cop replies that he couldnt because he had other things to do. Jack retorts, Like what? Go to the donut shop? The sheriff decides that Jack has gone too far and intervenes. Samantha then calls Jack over to see the knife that she found. It has blood on it. It also still has a bar code on it. They were able to trace the knife back to the store where it was purchased. Jack questions the owner (who is the same man who was arguing with the Reverend earlier). It turns out that Curtis wasnt the one who bought the knife; it was Daisy. She said that she needed the eight-inch hunting blade for protection. Jack asks him about his discussion with the Reverend, but doesnt get a straight answer. When the guy leaves, Jack turns to the sheriff and asks, Why do I get the distinct impression that hes lying? The sheriff says, Oh, Bob didnt do anything. He just doesnt trust outsiders. Jack retorts, Seems to be an epidemic of that in this townWere just here to help. It would be a real kick in the pants if we could get some cooperation.Back at Vivians house, the camera focuses on Reggie, while Vivian can be heard in the background thanking a police officer for bringing him home. She then walks into the room and starts asking Reggie questions. It turns out that Reggie cut school and was in the park with his friends, drinking beers. Vivian is really upset. She tells him, Now is not the time to start pulling this crap. Now is the time for this family to pull together. Do you understand me? Reggie storms out.Cut to Samantha walking down a pathway, talking to a young boy. He says that he travels that path frequently, but that you have to be careful that Curtis doesnt catch you because, hell take you out to the old bridge and chop you into little bits. Samantha says, in that fake serious voice that adults use when humoring children, Little bits? Really. The boy responds that Curtis did that to Daisy. Samantha says that he doesnt sound too sure of that and asks him, What did you see? The boy says that he saw something two days ago. Flashback to Daisy telling Curtis, Im telling you, he killed Amber. Curtis asks why she doesnt go to the police. She says that no one will believe her because they all think it was him and that she thinks the killer is going to get her too. Curtis doesnt believe that she is serious until she shows him the knife that she has. The boy, who is hiding behind the bushes, cracks a twig, causing Daisy and Curtis to look up and him to run away. Samantha asks him if he knows who they were talking about, but he says that he doesnt.23 hours missing. Danny is looking through the box of information on the Amber Bryce case. He asks if Martin has gone through it. When Martin says that he hasnt, Danny mentions that some evidence is missing. He says that in the reports, the Sheriff notes that there was hair in Amber Bryces watch, but it is not in the inventory or the Medical Examiners reports. Cut to Jack asking the Sheriff about the location of the hair. Jack accuses him of covering up the evidence. The Sheriff escorts Jack into his private office and tells him the whole story. The Sheriff was the first one on the scene. He noticed the hairs and wrote it down. Then he covered her with a blanket to try to preserve her dignity, which caused the hair to dislodge. He couldnt find it again and didnt want to get in trouble, so he omitted any mention of the hair after that. It turns out that the hair was blond and Curtis has dark hair, so the hair couldnt have belonged to him, making him an unlikely candidate for having committed the murder. The Sheriff said that if the case had gone to trial, then he would have said something. The young cop interrupts then, saying that they found Curtiss car. Jack tells him not to touch anything and heads out.At the scene of the car, Samantha peers in the windows, while Jack examines the surroundings. He finds Curtiss body.25 hours missing. Jack examines the car and finds a broken taillight. Samantha walks over and tells him that the M.E. says that Curtis took a vicious beating but has no stab wounds. Jack asks about the marks on Curtiss face. Samantha says that they dont know what caused them. It could be a ring. It could be a rock. Jack draws her attention to the broken taillight and the streaks of red paint next to it on the car. He also tells her, The glove compartment is open, and there is crap all over the floor. This car has already been searched. Samantha replies, Not that we can trust anything that these guys say at this point, but they claim that they never touched anything. Jack doesnt believe that.Cut to Jack and Samantha looking at a red truck with damage to the front. The camera pans up to show that the truck is parked in front of the church. Then Reverend Bryce says, For seven years, the people of this town warned me that this day would come. They said that Curtis had to be stopped, that I couldnt let him do it again. My answer was always the same, Father, forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. But when Daisy disappeared, all that was washed away. I couldnt say No anymore. Flashback to a truck pulling in front of Curtis, stopping him from driving on the road. He tries to reverse but hits the Reverends truck, which has pulled up behind him. Curtis gets out and is accosted by four guys who start shoving him and say they cant let him get away with this. Curtis says that he doesnt have time for this because he has somewhere to be and asks them to move their cars. One of them hits him, causing him to fall to the ground. Curtis looks up at the Reverend and asks him if this is what he wants. The Reverend says, You dont leave me any choice. Curtis replies, Go ahead thenGo ahead and kill me. My life hasnt meant a thing since Amber died. So go aheadbecause I dont care. Curtis is then hauled up by his jacket, and Bob holds a knife held to his throat. The Reverend tells them to stop, and Bob releases him. One of the men gave him a last parting shot, causing him to fall to the ground again. Reverend Bryce tells Jack and Samantha that they then drove away, leaving him on the ground. Jack tells him that it must be apparent even to him that Curtis is innocent. He also mentions that even the sheriff knew of Curtiss innocence and tried to cover it up. Jack then says, It might be time to work on the forgiveness sermon that you give to your congregation. He then leaves, while Samantha tells the Reverend that they are going to need a list of the men who were there as well as a list of all of the blond-haired men that Amber knew.26 hours missing. Back at the office, Martin asks Danny how it is coming. Danny says that Amber had a tennis coach with blond hair who is now dead, a blond-haired piano teacher who moved to Florida, and a neighbor with blond hair who was in Taiwan on business the month Amber was killed. Martin found one guy in the sex crimes database who lived in the town in 98. Danny asks if the guy had blond hair. Martin responds, And blue eyes. Danny retorts, Sounds like your type. Martin ignores the comment and says that the guy has been doing time in Rikers since 2002 for sexual assault of a minor. Danny comments that it wont help them with Daisys case, but Martin might have solved the old case. The phone rings. Its the lab saying that they got the DNA results back from the blood found on the knife. It isnt a match for Curtis, but it is a 50% match with Daisy. That means that the blood came from a relative (parent or sibling, and since there are no siblings) of Daisys. Samantha and Jack are questioning the mother. They tell her that the blood on the knife had to either come from her or her husband and ask her if any of their disagreements with Daisy have turned violent. She says, Once. A couple of weeks ago she threw a bottle at me. Flashback to the mother walking up to Daisy, who is sitting on the old bridge holding a bottle. Daisy is her usual antagonistic self and says that she has been drinking like a fish. Her mother asks her why she is doing this. Daisy responds, Dont you know? Im the bad seed. Guess I take after dadwell, except for the part about murdering people. Her mother asks her what she is talking about, and Daisy says that her father killed Amber Bryce. Her mother has had enough of this and stands up, pulling Daisy up with her. All the while, Daisy is saying things about her father, such as that he had sex with Amber and that he met Amber when she played tennis. Her mother says that they didnt even live in the town then, but Daisy doesnt want to listen/believe and asks why she is lying for him. Daisy gets really upset and ends up shouting, I just want to be left alone! throwing the bottle at her mothers feet, and storming away. Her mother says that an hour later, Daisy was in her room, asleep on the bed with all of her clothes on. Jack asks her about her and her husbands jobs and hours. She is a bookkeeper who works typical 9 to 5/6 hours, but his hours are more flexible. Samantha looks concerned/empathetic and asks, Do you think its possible that your husbands molesting your daughter? Daisys mother doesnt think so and says that she is a mother and she would know. It turns out that her husband has taken the car and she doesnt know where he is right now. She seems to believe that it might be possible that her husband did something to her daughter, because she is quite upset at this moment.Martin comes up to Danny at the office. He says that Daisys dad bought gas 30 minutes ago in Saratoga. Danny is on the phone with Samantha and asks her if she caught that. Cut to Samantha hanging up the phone and telling Jack the information. Jack then asks if they checked the phones. Cut to Martin and Danny looking at the phone numbers on the computer, and Martin saying that a call was made to Curtis from the Thorne house at 11:55 a.m., right before Curtis was accosted on the road and killed. Cut to Samantha saying, Maybe thats where Curtis was headedMaybe Thorpe knows where Daisy is. Cut to Danny saying, And hes either holding her somewhere, or hes killed her. Cut back to Jack, who is on the phone. He hangs up and says that state troopers picked up Mr. Thorpe.Jack angrily asks Mr. Thorpe where his daughter is, and while looking at the desk, Mr. Thorpe says he doesnt know. Jack tells him that when he is talking to him, he expects him to look in his eyes. He then repeats the question and gets the same answer, although this time Mr. Thorpe looks at him rather than the desk. Jack says that he knows that Mr. Thorpe has been molesting his daughter. This causes the Sheriff to perk up. Daisys dad denies that he has been molesting her. Jack says that Daisy must have finally fought back. Daisys dad denies this too. Jack asks how he can explain the cut on his arm then. He says that he went to her to ask forgiveness, but she went crazy. Flashback to Daisy holding the knife out while telling him, Stay away from me! He tries to calm her down. She says that she told Curtis everything. What you did to me. What you did to Amber You killed her! Her dad tries to calm her down again, but she screams, Youre never going to touch me again! He grabs for the knife, but she pulls away and slashes his arm. She then runs out. He tells Jack, It only happened onceone timesix weeks ago.I dont know what came over me, but it only happened once, I swear to God. Jack loses it at that statement. Just listen to yourself! One time?!?! You think thats okay?!?! Youre a sick pedophile, Mr. Thorpe. Do you understand that? You need help. Jack then asks what happened to Curtis. He says that they found the body, and it was all beaten up and marked up. The camera pans to show bruises and scrapes on Mr. Thorpes hand, along with a ring. Jack asks if he killed Curtis to shut him up. Mr. Thorpe says that he was trying to get Daisys location from Curtis. Flashback to Daisys dad getting out of the car and walking to meet with Curtis. He had lied to Curtis, saying that Daisy was there, to get him to come and talk. Curtis shakes his head and turns to leave. Mr. Thorpe follows him, verbally accosting him. As Curtis goes to open his car door, Mr. Thorpe puts a hand on his shoulder, spins him around, and punches him hard enough to put him down on the ground. He then gets on top of him and pummels him, constantly asking where Daisy is. Curtis says, You did this to her. She left because of you. This enrages Mr. Thorpe further, and he starts slamming Curtis back on the ground. One of the times that Curtis is hit into the ground, his head smashes into a rock, killing him. Mr. Thorpe stares at Curtiss lifeless body and says in a half whisper, Tell me where my baby is. He then hears a cell phone ring; its Curtiss, and Daisy is the one calling. Mr. Thorpe answers. He tells Jack that Daisy hung up on him. Jack asks for the phone, gets it, and finds out that the call originated from a phone in Albany.Cut to Daisy sitting on a bench. Jack and Samantha are in a car looking at her. Jack tells Samantha that he thinks she should be the one to handle this situation, and she agrees. She gets out of the car and walks over to Daisy. She introduces herself. Daisy says that she is going to NYC and is going to be fine. Samantha asks if Daisy has any money. Daisy says that she has $200. Samantha again uses her serious/humoring a child voice and says $200. How long do you think $200 is going to last you in New York City? Daisy says that she wants to talk to Curtis. Samantha says that she cant. Daisy assumes that Samantha wont let her because she thinks Curtis is the bad guy and gets upset at her. Samantha tells Daisy that she cannot talk to Curtis because he is dead. He was trying to protect you. Daisy asks, From who? My dad? She then says that Curtis should have come with her; she wanted him to come with her. Flashback to Curtis saying that he wont come with her because once she is gone, hell be the one who is blamed; theyll say that he killed Amber and left because he did something to Daisy. He gives her his cell phone number and the $200. She thanks him. He looks really emotional and says to Daisy that hell never tell anyone. She says, I know, and she gets out of the car. She then tells Samantha, I guess he kept his promise. She starts to cry and asks about her father, saying, I dont want to end up like Amber Bryce. Samantha tells her that her mother was right; they werent even in town when Amber was killed. She also says that her father is going away for a long time. Daisy asks what is going to happen now. Samantha responds with, You tell me. Daisy asks if her mom knows, and when Samantha says she does, Daisy asks if she is mad. Samantha responds, Not with you. Daisy says that she doesnt want to go home right away, so Samantha sits next to her quietly. The camera shows Jack watching them.Jack walks into the Sheriffs office. The Sheriff asks, What would you like me to say? Jack responds, Nothing. I would like you to clear Curtiss name. The Sheriff shows Jack his official statement and says that his resignation will be next. Jack says, Thats probably good. This town could do with a fresh start. Jack walks out.Cut to Vivian cutting up some vegetables at the counter while Reggie does homework at the table. She says in a quiet voice, You mad at me? You gotta be mad at somebody. Man, Im pissed. Reggie asks if she is scared, and she says that she is. He asks, Of what? She says, Of losing you. Of losing your dad. How about you? They have a nice conversation. An alarm beeps. Reggie walks over to her medications, easily opens the child-proof cap, grabs a bottle of water, and brings the pill and the water to Vivian. They hug.Back at the offices, Samantha walks up to Martin. He congratulates her on finding the girl. She indicates the materials that Martin is boxing up and asks if they are from the old case. He says that they are and that hes sending them back. Samantha says that Jack told her they had a lead on the old case. Martin says that the lead didnt pan out, so the case is still unsolved. I guess some cases arent meant to be. They both seem to realize the double nature of that comment and stand silently, not looking at each other. Samantha finally asks, You wanted me to fight harder, didnt you? Martin responds, It shouldnt have to be a fight. He walks out, and Samantha glances after him. The screen fades to black.

CSI Miami Spoilers

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Okay, I don’t read spoilers above and beyond the little snippets that people like Auseillo give in entertainment columns. That being said, this week’s Ask Auseillo  http://www.tvguide.com/news/askausiello/) had a shocker of a spoiler for CSI Miami. OKay, here is the question he received and the answer that he gave…Question: OK, so we’ve got the scoop on the other two CSIs. Any good stuff coming up on Miami? RoxAusiello: Yeah, Miami’s got some big surprises in store for May sweeps. For starters, Horatio learns that his brother Raymond is not dead and, in this season’s final episode, Calleigh quits ballistics after she gets assaulted at a crime scene. Not sure if that means Emily Procter is leaving, but it sure sounds like it.Anyone who knows me at all has to know that it is not the first part of the spoiler that upsets me, but the last part. What the heck?!?!?! If it’s true, I don’t think I’ll be watching CSI: Miami next year.

NCIS episode “Bikini Wax”

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Okay, I’m trying out a new thing, now that I have a livejournal account. I always make stream of conciousness reviews of the NCIS episodes, but I feel guilty posting the whole thing places. Instead, I’m going to try putting it here, so that interested parties can read it if they so desire, but it doesn’t make for an extremely long post elsewhere. This is one of those times that I am glad I am not an actress. Can you imagine having to be the poor woman in a bikini, lying on the concrete floor of the bathroom with your head on a toilet and your hair in the toilet? I know that being the dead body on the Law

Background info (This is a test; this is only a test…*grin*)

Okay, I got this LiveJournal account so that I could leave reviews about people’s stories and comment when I snag icons. But it looked so sad and lonely when it was blank, so… Some basic information about me: I am a graduate school student, so you would think that I don’t have much time, but somehow I manage to watch way too much television. Currently my favorite shows are NCIS, Without a Trace, Lost (Sawyer all the way…), Cold Case, and Gilmore Girls. I also watch CSI, CSI: Miami (don’t know if I want to admit that one; I only watch it for Eric and Calleigh), CSI: NY, Alias (not faithfully), and Law
